The Ocean Collection brought resin wave artwork to transparent acrylic skateboards. This is the story of that collection, originally introduced in 2022. It is a look back at the design, rather than a current release announcement.
A beachscape on a board
The idea behind the Ocean Collection was to bring the view from above the coastline onto a skateboard: bands of blue water, whitewash and the edge of the sand. The transparent acrylic gave the resin artwork a different backdrop from a traditional timber deck.
The glossy resin surface added depth to the ocean-inspired artwork. Against the clear section of each board, the coloured wave design became the focal point.
A Gold Coast collaboration
For the original collection, Gold Coast Longboards partnered with local artist Little Blue Creations on handmade ocean resin wave art. The launch introduced three board shapes: a platypus longboard, a wheel-cut longboard and a wide cruiser.
The result connected two parts of the GCLB story: a love of the coastline and an interest in putting distinctive artwork on boards.
Ocean and Lucid: two different design ideas
The Ocean Collection explored colour and resin wave artwork. The companion Lucid Collection focused on clear acrylic and engraved lines inspired by surfboard stringers. They shared a transparent material, but their visual identities were different.
